Starcraft 2 Goal

Recently made up my mind to do ONE THOUSAND 1V1'S in starcraft 2. My real life friends have finally bought the game, and I'm going to go all out. Placement matches were easy as always. A protoss guy pretended he didn't know english when I typed "gl hf" at the start, then started cursing me out and talking about being glad the fail terran is going to be nerfed at the end. I love it. Then there was a zerg that got whooped by my flying thors :-)

It seems I'm going to cross a lot of tears over terran being imbalanced. heh, I see good times ahead.

I've played about 100 4v4 random games, and it's been gotten boring faster than I thought it would. There aren't that many strategies that will work well like they would in 1v1.

Only have faced gold players so far, and they got killed 6 of my units the entire game. PDD and banshee is going to be my main weapon against protoss, and thors against zerg. They work really well. I'll update when I reach 100 :-)

Let Down

Starcraft 2 isn't as fun or entertaining as Brood War. I admit, Starcraft 2 is easier to play and it will be incredibly popular, but I just don't see myself playing a game that's a step down when it comes to mechanics.

Lots of terran players from the Brood War chose to play terran because it's the hardest to learn up to C- rank on iCCup. I'm not sure if that has transferred into Starcraft 2 but I do know what thing, Brood War takes more skill and practice. I've been pissed and overwhelmed with anxiety plenty of times trying to ladder on iCCup, call me masochistt, I love the difficulty involved. Of the two choices, I'll probably always choose the more difficult.

I've picked back up to playing on iCCup, and in my TvZ, lost my marine army for not paying good enough attention to them. This is the game for me.

C-, here I come.

After Reset

Went to see how I'd do playing off race (Zerg) and was placed in gold league. I'm absolutely terrible as zerg.... Now I shall see if I can main race my way back to platinum.

My secret weapon is half-way done. It may even be done before this game is released. I'd hazard a guess that most of the gold league would be, in comparison to BW iCCup, D ranked players. At least the ones that have played more than 10 games.

Idea

I know this would never make it... but after games, I would like there to be an option to replay a guy I've lost to. Moreso if I were the favored player. Lots of guys do strategies that would definitely not work if I played them again, just as it was on BW.

I'd like a ranking system that encourages replaying people. As it would also encourage more dynamic play and more skillful games.

Maybe there can be an "elite" ranking system that's based on replaying people altogether.

Would be sweet.

Perception

Played about 20 1vs1s, about 10 2v2s. Noticed some things, and agree with some observations from others.

TvP - As they were in BW, marines are shit. There's no point in wasting minerals on them, and it's best to get as much gas as possible for Rauders or other units. Also, dropships aren't all that helpful in battle. It's better to have one ghost than three dropships, no matter how many units you have. Emp is a very strong ability and if you get them off on the right units your army will kick ass. I say, by mid game, 3 or 4 ghosts would be wise, with one or two dropships to heal your units while not in battle, and vikings depending on if he's got collosi waiting for you.

In all Matchups, it's best to keep your gas down -have enough minerals to help keep the gas down. I never pump marines out with the reactor add-on.

TvT - Banshees with cloak are a bit difficult to deal with when they rush for them. I've tried going vikings and turrets, but lost a lot of scvs and my units, partly due to how poorly I reacted. One guy rushed two banshees (with cloak halfway done), and 4 marines inside a dropship. I had two vikings, about 4 marauders, and a few turrets that never got a chance to hit the banshees. He had the game in the bag (also had 100 apm).

TvZ, haven't played much of this. One went mass mutas, and another went mass roaches. I mostly lose due to bad macro. I'm thinking this is the only matchup in which marines would be of use, and spend gas on ravens or dropships. And upgrading everything.

I'm now in platinum league in 2v2s. Added some people from reddit and they seem to be all about team play. Now that I'm starting to understand the game a bit more, I now see there are a lot of bad players out there. In the games where I'm focusing on the terran, fast banshees. If focused on toss, emp. If zerg, eh, still a bit wobbly on what I make against them.

GG

Played some pretty good games as of late. I guess the rank system is starting to kick in since I've been playing players more close to my level.

Few thoughts, in a TvZ the guy went super duper zerglings and a bit of banelings. I know now to never try to push out when theres a chance a zerg is going mass early zerglings. the guy even said "You will lose in 5 minutes"... I lost about 10 minutes in to all lings.

A TvT, wow I LIKE TvT now. Siege tanks are no longer a pain in the ass. And even more powerful than it was in BW, the dropship helped me rape a guy that focused on defending his choke. Dropships can hold 8 marines or 4 rauders each! I'm definitely putting dropship harass to good use in the future. I wasn't even able to fill all my dropships up. Wow.

Finally, a TvP. 30 minute game and I lost because of Collus. They shoot so damn far, a perfect compliment to stalkers. I mostly blame my lack of experience as I never looked for robotics facility or tried to counter with many vikings. I should definitely put vikings in my game if not banshees. Also, bunkers are pretty useful in my opinion. Especially with marines in them instead of the rauders.

It's hard to shake the habit of putting depots behind your mineral line. They will be much more useful spread out to bring every inch in the vicinity in view, so as to see reapers, warped units and nydus if they ever try to be sneaky.

Who Would Have Known

So I won my first 5 matches that determine which league you are in. I'm in platinum @_@ Evidently, there aren't too many people that are better than me (Edit: Spoke too soon, played platinum three times and lost each game). But I do see that there just aren't enough people for rank to be accurate.

Funny thing too, I opted-in last week. And I was on my way to getting back on iccup for a little while longer, I played one game (won). I need some friends in the US...

Anyone know how I put to use that extra key people have been supposedly getting?

Lastly, I'm about 30% finished with my secret weapon. Should be about done release date...

Wait.... WTF? @_@

Is this real? Am I going crazy?

Edit: Played first game, won the TvT. Was pretty nervous and the other guy was doing who knows fuck what trying to fast expand and fail blocking entrances. He said "gg faggot" before leaving. Exceeellleennnt.

Now to sleep, have to be up early. Time for some good days.

Boredom from SC2

It's exciting thus far playing 5 AI in FFA. Two computers usually decide to rush me. I can kill one off fairly early and just macro my way to victory. It's pretty simple ,I really believe Banshees and vikings are going to be the terran's strength. The Starport seems as if it will be much more used than the factory.

A thing that annoys me is how difficult it is to run my scv from a group of zerglings. Once they start chasing I might as well forget about that scv.

I'm trying to enjoy it for what it is, patiently waiting to play my first team game with actual players. Wouldn't it be hilarious if Blizzard decided to scrap Starcraft II?

Torn Between the Two

I've been playing the Starcraft 2 AI (the noncheating one) and lost even as terran (at least in the first game. Immortals surprised the crap out of me).

It's quite the experience. The big question: should I go back to BW anymore? I've only played it to be 'ready' for starcraft 2, but now the SC2 beta has been cracked. I can get used to the macro mechanics and weaknesses and strengths RIGHT NOW! ... BUT! ... but, BW is a great game, and this the END. I'd miss it. I hit D+ just before the new season of iCCup... what a hassle.

And I've decided what to do. I'll play a few FINAL games of BGH, FFA, whatever of BW. And I'm done. Forever.

I'll be practicing on Starcraft 2.... learning the hotkeys and BO's and macroing. Day in and day out against the computer (unless they figure out how to do player vs player). I sure hope to hell this game turns out successful after all the time I'm putting it.

Has anyone else been playing Beta?

Edit: Just lost two BGH games. Fuck BW FOREVER!

Edit 2: Maybe I can reach my 800 game goal with Beta? :-)

Beta HACKED!!

Haha. I'm half sleep right now from staying up watching SC 2 replays, thanks to reddit.. Obs. mode is awesome! And that's about all available to me with this (for now).

I've only watched two replays (one was 40 minute long) and can't really comment on the dynamics much. I'll have to pass the excitement zone to and pay attention.

Beta? Beta!! Beta... Release Date?

So the Beta is finally out and about. Now I have something to live for - besides the feeling I get from showing people my hairy feet (People are usually amazed, rarely disgusted). And it looks great. Now that it definitely seems SC2 will be released this year, I'm beginning to have doubts that anyone I know would get into as much as I. As I watch some streams, I can see that there is still going to be macro and micro involved. And massing games will still be key. Practice.

I've got a secret weapon for when Starcraft 2 comes out, and I'm almost bursting to tell it, but I'm going to wait until the release date to show it. It's going to be one hell of a fucking weapon. I've thought and thought about how I could improve my game, and I've finally figured it out! The 2009 Redus would seem like ... a toddler trying to figure out how to drive or pay bills.

FOREWARNING : I am waging war on all people under the age of 24. I'll do whatever it takes to beat the crap out of you. You haven't seen the last of me! Any readers below 24, pray you don't ever play me. That's right, get down on your knees. Look up into the sky and clasp your mouse and keyboard close to your heart. Pray you don't cross terrible terrible damage.

I gaurantee you, I'm going to stun you, and it's not even going to be from looking at my feet.

Season 11

It's a new season. This will be the best one yet. I'm going to really dig in!

Top goal for this season: Not allow any protoss under 170 apm to beat me. On my off time, I've learned about the specific 5 factory push. This punishes the toss if they try to take a third, and I have a timing window where I can semi-explode. My TvP will be different. I've downloaded an excellent UMS map where I use vultures offensively, for dragoons in particular. This kind of thing will be put to practice, I'll be trying it every game.

Time to really stick it to the protoss. Expect a first person video sometime soon.

This season, C- will be reached, and I will win at least 3 games while I'm there! How's that!?

As for TvT ... no ...

Just what is iCCup going to throw at me!?

Map of choice for this season will be Fighting Spirit.

Just you wait, I'll be the first black pro starcraft player ever.
